MA Doran Gallery presents two new shows, 鈥淣ew paintings by Wendeline Matson鈥 and work by realist artists participating in Philbrook Museum鈥檚 鈥淭he Object Project鈥 exhibition. Wendeline Matson: New Paintings Still life painting has been a popular genre for many generations. Iconography has varied based on the time period of the work and the artist鈥檚 personal preference or message. Using the idea of still life painting as a basis, Tulsa artist Wendeline Matson takes the age-old theme in a fresh direction. Layers of bright color and expressionistic brushwork take a predominate role in Matson鈥檚 paintings. Images such as flowers, cows, fruit, and bicycles, are painted on the canvas in a way that is unpredictable yet witty. These elements combined are what make Matson鈥檚 paintings so delightful. The overall effect is a whimsical view of the ordinary. Realism by artists of 鈥淭he Object Project鈥 The Philbrook Museum is hosting a special exhibition that will open June 29th titled 鈥淭he Object Project.鈥 This show includes 15 nationally recognized contemporary American painters. These artists agreed to create a multi-panel painting or two similarly sized paintings and incorporate 5 common objects: a glass of water, a moth, a ball of string, a bone, and a mirror. It proved to be an interesting and challenging task. The finished pieces will be on display at Philbrook through September 21. As an introduction to 鈥淭he Object Project鈥 and to promote the exhibition, MA Doran Gallery will feature work by many of the participating artists. The work displayed will provide visitors with the opportunity to see additional paintings by the artists that are not directly related to 鈥淭he Object Project鈥 theme. Participating artists include:
