Revolve: 1984–2024

11 Jul, 2023 - 19 Aug, 2023

Bockley Gallery is pleased to present Revolve: 1984–2024, a summer group exhibition that anticipates the 40-year anniversary of the gallery with a revolving presentation of artists connected to its past, present and future.

The first iteration of the summer show begins with Prismacolor-on-paper portraits by Frank Big Bear (Ojibwe) and gestural enamel-on-poster board abstractions by Bruce Anderson—both artists foundational to Bockley Gallery’s early program. It also features longtime gallery artists Andrea Carlson (Grand Portage Ojibwe) and Pao Houa Her, who will show intricate drawings on paper and photographic portraiture, respectively. Also included in the first rotation are a series of soft sculptures by Maggie Thompson (Fond du Lac Ojibwe) and densely colorful paintings by Clarence Morgan—both new-to-the-gallery artists, as well as a first showing by Matthew Kirk of his sheetrock paintings. Look forward to periodic rotations of works by these artists as well and others, including Leslie Barlow, Lissa Karpeh, and Elizabeth Simonson.
