Russell Tyler
ussell Tylers paintings are, in his words, a manifested state of frenzy. Rooted in his origins as a graffiti artist and break-dancer, his work has gone on to collide with neo-expressionism, pop art, and cartoon imagery. The results are colorful canvases frosted with great globs of paint, seemingly squirted willy-nilly over nave representations such as the iconic smiley face. By applying paint in its most raw state, he eschews all conventional rules of painting, creating exhilaratingly fresh work that is both liberating and full of humor. He received his MFA from the Pratt Institute and has exhibited widely throughout the East Coast and Canada. He currently lives and works in New York City. This is his first solo show with Fouladi Projects.
