Selected Works From the KGLU Collection by Artists From Koro拧ka

12 Jun, 2015 - 09 Sep, 2015

A selection of artworks, created within a century-long time span, offers a partial insight into the creative world of artists related to the specific milieu of the Koro拧ka region. The temporally and stylistically conditioned diversity draws a kaleidoscopic image of art in the 20th century, which, particularly in the second half of the previous century, dispersed into a multiplicity of artistic quests/explorations and visual practices. The distance of Koro拧ka from the major centres of art was the main reason for the inevitable departures of artists, searching for education and wanting to make a name for themselves. Many of them never returned home; for others, however, it was precisely here that they found inspiration and shaped their creative credo. The selection of works from the collection of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koro拧ka does not offer an exhaustive survey of visual art in Koro拧ka, for the collection also reflects collectors鈥 strategies and practices in previous periods of the museum鈥檚 activity. As a result, the range of works included is broad: it includes works by artists from Koro拧ka, who worked in different periods and used different styles of expression 鈥 from a traditional, realistic treatment of the phenomenal works to abstraction 鈥 and there are only a handful of artists who are represented in the KGLU collection with a more substantial opus. The collection, therefore, is not completed; amenable to additions and reinterpretations, it is an open invitation to visitors.
