Through V. B. perspective: Artworks by Andrius Zakarauskas
As he explores the boundaries of reality and illusion, Andrius Zakarauskas (b. 1982) often depicts himself in his work, while also making references to art history, scenes from films and television series or delving into religious themes by painting interpretations of Christian narratives. But he is most intrigued by the nature and power of painting. Zakarauskas鈥� painting is characterized by paradox: His works clearly depict human figures, but they lack any specific references and it remains unclear what those people are actually doing 鈥� which Zakarauskas himself admits he doesn鈥檛 really know either.
During the creation of the MO Collection works entitled Miracle and The Baptizing, Andrius Zakarauskas sought to transform everyday situations into dreamlike states, and in the process explored astronomy 鈥� constellations and cosmic clouds. He has said that Miracle emerged from his contemplation of the moment of the world鈥檚 creation.
The series Pro V. B. prizm臋 (Through V. B. Perspective) presents works and accompanying video material captured by MO Museum鈥檚 founder Viktoras Butkus. The series seeks to show how a work of art is created in a studio.
