Wisconsin Photography 2024
Established in the 1970s and hosted biennially, Wisconsin Photography underscores RAM鈥檚 institutional commitment to looking at contemporary art in a variety of forms. Celebrating the rich community of photographers and video artists living and working in Wisconsin, this juried exhibition takes a different approach than most, with artists being asked to submit a portfolio of up to 10 images or two short films for juror review. This allows the juror to conduct a more extensive review of an artist鈥檚 body of work and, if they wish, the opportunity to select multiple pieces from an artist鈥檚 portfolio鈥攃reating a dynamic exhibition where viewers are able to get a better idea of how the photographer expresses their ideas across multiple works.
Juror Jennifer Wcisel reviewed 986 works by 110 artists and selected 96 works by 35 artists for this year鈥檚 exhibition. Wcisel is the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM), Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she leads the museum鈥檚 diverse program of rotating exhibitions, including traveling and independently organized exhibitions. She is responsible for the stewardship of GRAM鈥檚 permanent collection of 7,000 objects, which she activates through original exhibitions, installations, research, community programs, and publications.
