The title of Donald Moffett鈥檚 latest exhibition, 鈥淪nowflake,鈥� is a deliberate provocation.鈥淚 don鈥檛 identify as a snowflake,鈥� he told me, a week before the opening of the show, his first New York solo since 2019.

Known as the 鈥淢ichelangelo of caricature,鈥� Honor茅 Daumier famously satirized France鈥檚 19th century bourgeoisie and government officials in a variety of mediums, including painting, prints and sculpture.

The exhibition 鈥淥NE DAY鈥� featured eighteen black-and-white photographic prints developed from Polaroid slides made during a twelve-hour photo shoot that took place on Long Island, New York, in 1992.

Donald Moffett was raised in San Antonio, Texas. He studied both biology and art at Trinity University, a small鈥攂y Texas standards鈥攂espoke liberal arts school.

With more than one hundred works on view, and nearly half of them from 2024, the exhibition showcases how artists have harnessed the sun, moon, and stars to capture the sanctity of nature鈥攂oth in Maine and beyond.
