Having an introverted personality, Edward Hopper used his artwork to express what he could not verbally communicate. His work is a depiction of his reality and his understanding of modern America. Hopper used a variety of mediums and techniques, including watercolor, printmaking and etchings. His subject matter generally consisted of landscapes, both urban and rural, and the individuals who were involved with the environments he was portraying. He conveyed little movement, but was successful in capturing a candid, yet quiet moment in time through his work.
