Anna-Stina Treumund: How to Recognise a Lesbian?

The exhibition How to Recognise a Lesbian presents an overview of the works of Anna-Stina Treumund, who was the first in Estonia to openly identify as a lesbian artist. It is the largest solo exhibition of her works to date. Treumund鈥檚 works express her journey of self-discovery as a member of the LGBTQ community, as well as the broader themes of gender and sexuality in a post-Soviet context, where women are expected to remain within narrow boundaries, in which Treumund felt uncomfortable. In the exhibition, Treumund鈥檚 works are in dialogue with those of artists who have influenced her (Marju Mutsu and Kai Kaljo), as well as with young artists who are continuing the queer feminist exploration in contemporary art (Janina Sabaliauskait臈 from Lithuania, and Elo Vahtrik and Maria Izabella Lehtsaar from Estonia).
