Arco铆ris 82

11 Sep, 2025 - 06 Jan, 2026

The exhibition Arco铆ris 82 (鈥淩ainbow 82鈥) is based on unpublished material from the filming of Aro berria (2025), the first feature-length fiction film by artist and filmmaker Irati Gorostidi Agirretxe. The film concludes a research and creative process centred on the Arco Iris (鈥淩ainbow鈥) community, which settled in the Ulzama Valley (Navarre) during the 1980s.

The work highlights the bodies and testimonies of those who participated in Gorostidi鈥檚 stagings. These performances recreate the cathartic dynamics that once existed within the community that inspired the film. The exhibition consists of two multi-screen video installations, Marathon and Samsara, which are projected alternately. Samsara also includes a series of photographs taken during filming. In addition, the exhibition presents archival images of the Arco Iris community.

As the director and the film itself sought ways to represent a specific historical moment through different filming processes (aiming to 鈥渞ecreate鈥 or 鈥渞evisit鈥 a bygone era), some of these processes became real experiences for the participants. In the interviews that are part of the video installation, the individuals who give their accounts speak in the voice of their characters, yet emotions surface that are more related with their own experiences.

Arco铆ris 82 reveals a dimension that transcends staging 鈥攖hat goes beyond the purpose of story, of narration, and even of fiction鈥 and focuses on presenting the experience itself in an immersive way. Through the tension between the fragility of the word and the truth of bodies in action, the material that shapes this video installation functions as a document of the experiences lived within the Arco Iris community.
