Celebration: The Past Forward
In September of 2002, several months after the inaugural exhibition featuring Martin Emanuel, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia opened not only its galleries, but its offices, hallways and storage areas in order to 鈥渃elebrate鈥 the Museum鈥檚 new permanent collection of visual art by Georgia artists. 250 individual pieces, donated from the Corporate Collection of CGR Advisors and David Golden, as well as several works donated by individual supporters encompass MOCA GA鈥檚 Founding Collection. The exhibition was titled simply 鈥淐elebration Exhibition of the Permanent Collection鈥
Today, in conjunction with our year-long celebration leading up to our 25th Birthday, (marking 25 years since the signing of MOCA GA鈥檚 articles of incorporation and 501C3 status), we once again celebrate the founding collection! With a selection of works from that premier exhibition, we harken back to the beginning, as we begin our journey towards a bright new future in West Midtown.
Back in 2002, Co-Founder and Director Annette Cone-Skelton stated 鈥淭he pieces we鈥檒l show through this fall exhibition are representative of artists from many locations and generations of Georgia. We believe it鈥檚 important to understand the evolution of Georgia鈥檚 artists, and this show helps to achieve that.鈥 Almost 25 years later, MOCA GA continues showing the development and triumph of Georgia artist through its significant permanent collection and archives.
