Doug Trump OPENS EXHIBITION OF NEW PAINTINGS AT REEVES CONTEMPORARY NEW YORK, NY鈥. Painter Doug Trump opens a show of new work at Reeves Contemporary on Thursday evening, May 18th with a reception from 6-8 p.m. The exhibition continues through June 24th. Doug Trump鈥檚 oil paintings on both canvas and silkscreen incorporate fields of pigment punctuated by spontaneous drawing to convey monumental space. Rich balances of color and collaged surfaces serve as background to finely drawn gestural figures rendered primarily in pencil, ink, and charcoal. These areas are often overpainted, sanded back and thinly veiled in tonal increments to give the work a dimensional quality. These paintings have lengthy working histories, with the artist often addressing and re-addressing on one piece over a period of years. The various textures, range of tonalities, and bold graphic marks together inform each piece with its own narrative and unique rhythm. About his work, Trinkett Clark, former curator of Twentieth Century Art at the Chrysler, wrote: 鈥淐harged with an energetic incandescence, his work offers a visual journey that includes and transcends our immediate reality.鈥 Trump has had a number of highly successful exhibits in New York City and throughout New England and the East Coast. His paintings were the subject of a 1995 Parameters exhibition at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia, curated by Trinkett Clark.
