Drawings, Watercolours, Collages before 1945

Oct 22, 2010 - Mar 20, 2011
Graphic arts have always played a significant role at the MdM Salzburg. When the museum was established in 1983, it was originally called 鈥淢odern Art Gallery and Graphic Collection Rupertinum鈥 and heralded as 鈥淎lbertina of the West鈥. Graphic art has long abandoned its original role as preliminary draft or sketch and established itself as an artistic genre in its own right. Artists appreciate graphic arts as an uncomplicated and flexible means of providing thought-provoking impulses. A few lines haphazardly drawn on a sheet of paper with a pencil, crayon or brush are enough to eternalize a moment of pulsating life. The museum owns graphics by many internationally renowned artists, including Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Herbert Boeckl, Lovis Corinth, Otto Dix, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Alfred Kubin, Wilhelm Th枚ny and many others.

Within the framework of a threeyear research project, funded by the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne, the provincial government of Salzburg and the Society of Friends and Promoters of the MdM SALZBURG, the museum鈥檚 collection of watercolours, drawings and collages created before 1945 has been systematically categorized.

The highlights of this collection are now presented in the exhibition 鈥淚m Bl盲tterrausch. Drawing, Watercolours, Collages before 1945鈥. The results of the three-year research project are published in a catalogue with the same title, which also includes a CD Rom with detailed information on all works.
