First exhibited in The Swedish History Museum, we are pleased to bring an excerpt of Esther Shalev-Gerz鈥檚鈥淭he Gold Room鈥� to Detroit. These portraits capture and unfold stories through conversation around five artifacts from the museum鈥檚 collection and five objects brought overseas by refugees. Highlighting the cultural and personal value of these objects, Shalev-Gerz floats a gold square over the works that veil the images while simultaneously opening passageways into the past.
