About a year ago, we invited Udstillingsstedet Sydhavn Station to exhibit at Den Frie. The 10 artists behind the exhibition space accepted the invitation and at the same time invited Den Frie Udstilling to present their own works at their art space at Sydhavn Station. The concept behind this double exhibition Exit First – Then Enter springs from a mutual gesture between the two associations, developing a new exhibition format.

The exhibition shows solo presentations by artists from Sydhavn Station, each presenting extracts from their individual art practices. The exhibition also includes one guest exhibitor, who has created an overall visual presentation of the participating artists. Giving new life to the traditional organisation of group exhibitions, the exhibition pays tribute to the values surrounding the format, where artists are exhibiting side by side, free from overall tematics.

The invitation to Udstillingsstedet Sydhavn Station is based on our wish to make room for new artists’ associations and groups. Being an artists’ house, we consider it our finest task to show different groups and collective exhibitions, and it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the two exhibitions at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art and Udstillingsstedet Sydhavn Station.
