Little Window of Opportunity March - Leaving Home - The Sadness of Geography

28 Feb, 2012 - 31 Mar, 2031
Leaving Home is a mixed media installation consisting of five collagraph print, each 200x 270mm on Hahnemuhle 350 gsm paper & cotton stitching.

The project has been realized collaboratively by textile artist Lella Cariddi with printmaker Michael Cogan.
The original image design for each collagraph, comes from a set of calico embroidery samplers (30 in all) Lella Cariddi stitched midway through  last century  in Italy.

Reworked and translated from textile to works on paper as collagraph prints onto new textures, and exposed in an art gallery space, not only will the works lose their original identity, but, will also be subjected  to new interpretative narratives.

Thematically, the title for each of 200x 270mm prints: LEAVING HOME, JOURNEYING, A MOTHER AND THREE DAUGHTERS TRAVEL TO AUSTRALIA, and NOSTALGIA, is predicated on notions of family, migration, destiny, separation and an unrequited longing.

The title for: THE FLUIDITY OF DREAMS, is predicated on notions of displacement, instability, not having a natural mother-country to call home.
