IN Touch — Onboards Biennale 23
This summer, Muhka presents a selection of 20 billboard posters by international artists in its INBOX space (5th floor). The posters come from the seventh edition of the Onboards Biennale, which in summer 2023 transformed Antwerp’s urban landscape with 2 × 100 artworks displayed across the city.
The selected works reveal the richness and diversity of that edition. Each poster was an artistic intervention in public space – poetic, socially engaged, playful or reflective – and now takes on a new context within the museum.
De Onboards Biennale
The Onboards Biennale is an international platform for contemporary art in public space. Billboards in the public domain are used as a medium for image, text, activism and imagination – visible day and night to all passers-by.
This transforms public space into a place of wonder, confrontation and reflection. By bringing art quite literally into the street, the Biennale makes art more accessible.
IN Touch
The theme of the 2023 edition was IN Touch. It was not only about physical contact, but about building connections – with yourself, with others, with the city and with art. Art was used as a way to spark conversation, to view the world differently and to question fixed ideas.
