Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the National Gallery of Art
It includes 83 of the greatest masterworks from the collection of the National Gallery of Art, in Washington DC, among them around 50 paintings and works on paper never before seen in Japan. Roughly half the works in the exhibition are from the Gallery's core collection, and are rarely included in traveling exhibitions in such large numbers.
The National Gallery of Art is considered one of the largest and finest museums of Western art in the world, with more than 120,000 artworks acquired solely through gifts and donations. The museum's initial collection was established in the 1930s with donation from financier and industrialist Andrew W. Mellon. Eight other founding benefactors made important contributions as well.
