Lane Cormick: Smoking will never die but you will

30 May, 2025 - 24 Aug, 2025

Lane Cormick's Smoking will never die but you will, brings together key works from the past 20 years, including several of the artist鈥檚 iconic performances, experimental photographic and print works, sculptures, and new interpretations/manifestations of his collaborative projects. In addition, new works will be in conversation, a signpost for future direction in the artist鈥檚 practice.

Cormick鈥檚 practice remains difficult to tie-down and summarise, a reflection of the Artist鈥檚 broad interests and approaches to making. A curatorial challenge, the exhibition will be part stereotypical survey, past works in conversation, and an exercise in visualising Cormick鈥檚 conceptual thinking process, where ideas foster new works and take existing ones in new connected directions. The exhibition will be an insight to how the Artist works and a survey of his open-ended and unpredictable oeuvre.

This exhibition recognises a pivotal phase in Cormick鈥檚 career, providing a platform for exploration, dialogue, and artistic growth. By offering a space for retrospection and critical examination, it celebrates the profound impact of his contributions on local and national audiences, as well as cultural communities.
