The inextricable relationship between people and the natural world is often revealed in the smallest moments. If we are open to them, oceans, forests, deserts, rocks, and sky, can teach us about persistence and the interconnectedness of all things. The relative brevity of human life鈥攏ested as it is within geologic time鈥攃an invite contemplation and long looking, which makes photography, in many ways, the ideal medium to record the powerful forces that transform landscapes over time. For this Open Call, the Vermont Center for Photography is soliciting work from local, national, and international artists using photography in intriguing ways to explore the environment in all its variety. We are especially interested in thought-provoking work that centers on the fragile balance of nature and goes beyond the established norms of conventional beauty.
