Revolving Brass Forms
A science enthusiast and artistic formalist, Stephan Soihl melds these primary interests into kinetic sculptures of sophistication and minimalist beauty. In his latest exhibit, microcontrollers drive the motion of the sculptures, which are made of brass, oil and Plexiglas. Several works are freestanding鈥攏o longer tethered to wall or ceiling as in previous shows. By using shafts composed of a rod inside a tube, Soihl creates up to three separate revolving motions within the components of each sculpture, which are motion-activated by the viewer.
