Cisternerne is an old water reservoir built in 1856-1859. For many decades the subterranean chambers were forgotten but are now open to the public and offer world-class art experiences. Today, Cisternerne is an exhibition space for contemporary art with one annual site-specific total experience - and a wide range of events during the year.

Taryn Simon has filled Cisternerne with the beautiful voices of twenty professional lamenters, but the magnificent sadness does not really hit home.

One thing that I love is art in mysterious places, pushing me out of a traditional white box and typical gallery walls. So I knew I was in for it when I arrived at the Cisternerne in Copenhagen.
