This autumn the Rijksmuseum presents Ed van der Elsken: Crazy World, an exhibition focusing on the personal archive that sheds new light on the most celebrated 20th century photographer in the Netherlands.
The Rijksmuseum and the Nederlands Fotomuseum have jointly acquired the artistic estate of the photographer Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990), safeguarding for the nation the largest archive of work by one of the most important Dutch photographers of the 20th century.
Born and raised in Cologne and known primarily for his iconic photographs of the Neues Bauen movement of modernist architecture that emerged there in the 1920s, Werner Mantz (1901-1983) established a successful practice in his home town.
The tension and struggles among invisible powers (often economic) and society, the artificial world and nature are often at the fore of Jacqueline Hassink鈥檚 work.
The Rotterdam exhibition includes more than 200 of his photographs, including work from the famous series Brooklyn Gang, East 100th Street and Time of Change: Civil Rights Movement.
