Art Omi presents three major projects this fall

An aura of disaster, death and decay is omnipresent in the artist鈥檚 solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art鈥檚 Geffen warehouse in Little Tokyo. 

May is undoubtedly a market-oriented art month in New York, with Frieze quickly followed by another fair, Independent, and then a succession of big-ticket auctions to boot.

In this edition, you won鈥檛 find the bold assertions, the grand gestures, the finger pointing鈥攊n short, the controversy鈥攖hat typically make Biennial headlines. The works of the 71 artists on view here invite empathy and contemplation more than anger or applause.

The Whitney Museum鈥檚 flagship contemporary art showcase turns on questions of identity, authenticity and mutability, which play out across more than a handful of interrelated topics.

If the Whitney Biennial really must reflect the United States as it stands right now, this year it had a particularly tall order.

It鈥檚 not that Young Chung and Kibum Kim dislike traditional paintings, but as the owners of the gallery Commonwealth and Council in Los Angeles, they prefer artworks that can spin your head sideways.
