W. Hay is an artist. The maker's first piece to be offered at auction was "An Officer, facing right in the uniform of the 102nd Regiment of Foot, scarlet coat with pale buff facings, shoulder belt plate with the Prince of Wales's feathers, silver epaulettes, frilled cravat and black stock, powdered hair" at Christie's London in 1998.
