Fuel with Clouds: Jeroen Allart & Hans van Bentem
Duo exhibition; for the first time Flatland Gallery presents in Amsterdam Jeroen Allart and Hans van Bentem.
In 'Fuel with clouds' both artists share a connection of how character can be linked to a certain location or indirectly, through a certain material.
It’s about Jeroen Allart’s story of generations of northern Dutch farmers, their battle with the winds, rain and water, and how this story is captured in Allart’s endless flat air landscapes. His birds depict the hidden wish to fly away from the biased ideas.
For the sculptural objects by Hans van Bentem, it seems that the artist whishes to awaken the prejudiced minds that cannot be reasoned into common sense.
Funny monsters made from wood; the wood and the craftsmanship coming from Mali, a West-African country with different indigenous religions and a belief in ancestral spirits is apt. Like we said, there is this connection, this thing, between character and location.
Global society or not.
