Dunes used to be very erratic and changeable. Men spoke of pristine dune. The dunes in the Nordic Islands of the Netherlands arose from an interplay of natural processes and human influences. Sparsely vegetated dunes alternated dune valleys, in which dune lakes occurred. During storms, the dunes were a playing field for winds with large sand drifts to follow. Today, because of governmental actions to alleviate the problem of the shifting dunes, dunes were stabilised by planting. In Kim Boske's new work the pioneering character of the original dunes come back forth. Through her original technique of collages, the movement of sand and grey hair-grass turnes these static dunes to migrate, again.
