Spotlight: Lyne Lapointe

27 Sep, 2025 - 08 Nov, 2025

Vielmetter Los Angeles is thrilled to present the first exhibition of our 鈥淪potlight鈥 series featuring new works by Montr茅al artist Lyne Lapointe.

Born 1957 in Montr茅al, Canada, Lyne Lapointe is a multidisciplinary artist whose early and bold installations have had a major influence in feminist and queer circles and who has more recently developed collage techniques with extraordinary craftsmanship. Driven by what she terms 鈥渁n archaeology of memory,鈥 her artistic practice involves what has always fascinated her: female desire, a fusion of animal and human imagery, and the precarious nature of the invisible, which she expresses at the limits of often unusual materials.

The two works featured in our 鈥淪potlight鈥 exhibition, Lady Gaga (2025) and The Gardener (2025), are emblematic of her distinctive practice, integrating materials such as found shells and wooden branches to spur imagery bordering on the surreal.

For over four decades, the artist has exhibited her work in Canada, the United States, Brazil, and Europe. She has distinguished herself in prestigious settings such as the S茫o Paulo Biennial, the New Museum in New York, and the Mus茅e d鈥檃rt contemporain de Montr茅al, which organized a major survey exhibition that toured across Canada and abroad, to La Rochelle in France. Other prominent institutions have acquired her work throughout her career, including the Brown University Art Museum in Providence, the List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Mus茅e national des beaux-arts du Qu茅bec and the Montr茅al Museum of Fine Arts. Lyne Lapointe is represented by Jack Shainman Gallery in New York, NY.

A documentary feature film, entitled Lyne Lapointe: The Spirit of Matter, premiered at the 2024 International Festival of Films on Art (Le FIFA) in Montr茅al and Qu茅bec City, and later screened in New York at the 2025 NYC Independent Film Festival.

Our 鈥淪potlight鈥 series introduces new artists to our program by showcasing a focused micro selection of new works in our intimate viewing gallery.
