What I Am

22 Mar, 2017 - 29 May, 2017

In What I Am, the autobiographical and self-referential aspects of artistic creation invite new perspectives and interpretations.

Adopting the title of a poem by Teixeira de Pascoaes (originally published in the book Elegias, in 1912), the exhibit's central theme is the relationship between the definition of self (the individual itself) and the ideas of art and life 鈥 as well as their interactions 鈥 in contemporary production, questioning the various possible connections between biographical and artistic routes. Addressing concepts such as art in life and life in art, the borders between art and life and the desire 鈥 or urgency 鈥 to overcome them, the exhibition showcases a selection of works and artist books, from which a web of connections between reality and fiction is weaved.

What I am is the third exhibition in a cycle of viewpoints on the EDP Foundation鈥檚 Art Collection, entitled Perspectives.
