This commenced on the principle of retaining style, improving standards and functions, utilizing the latest scientific and technological achievements as well as combining humanistic thoughts with environment-friendly ideas. The brand-new NAMOC was reopened to the public in July 2003 with expanded exhibition space and advanced safety, defense, ventilation and lighting equipment. The preparation of the NAMOC 's second phase of expansion is underway. The future NAMOC is expected to connect the existing main construction in the east, border Huang Cheng Gen Site Park in the west, and adjoin Xiaojiao hutong in the north and Wusi Street in the south. The project will add to the museum a new building of 40,000 square meters. It is expected that the NAMOC will becomeone of the world's first-class museum.
