Fernand L茅ger was a French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker. Initially trained as an architect, his early works are known for showcasing the lasting influence of Cubism. Leger's early works are often referred to as Salon Cubism. The "mechanical" works L茅ger painted in the 1920s are typical of postwar art, and link him to the tradition of French figurative painting represented by Poussin and Corot. His bold and simplified treatment of modern subject matter led him to be regarded as a forerunner of Pop Art.
